Our studio studied a site in East Boston that faces a challenging future due to its position related to rising sea levels. After doing extensive site research, we developed plans for a multi-family, multi-generational housing. Using modular building strategies, I designed a complex that would create a gradient of public to private space in order to blend the existing community needs into the program of the building. I emphasized the design of the façade as it related to my concept of the public to private gradient. Using Grasshopper and Ladybug, I analyzed how the sun and wind interacted with the site and my massing model and implemented a pattern of material layering to provide responsive lighting and wind protection.
